just out of curiosity, do you stay at a hostel? I'm pretty sure it's rather expensive to stay for months even in a hostel. I'm also thinking of going to Taiwan so I want to know where I can stay for a reasonable price for several months
I completely understand you! I lived in Japan a year, and 7/11 were one of the best things!, I miss them a lot. Plus the art supply store are great, even if don't need anything, you just go and want to but everything!!!
i was born in taiwan and lived there for almost 12 years before i moved to the US. I agree with all your observations and drawings. Nice job! Im looking forward to reading more of ur comics.
awesome!!! U're SO right about those things... I grew up in Taiwan but have been living in the States for over 10 years... everytime I go back to visit Taiwan I realized those things...
Starbucks = fashion statement ... girls wearing tons of makeup and colored contact lenses I did however experienced teenagers sync dancing outside MEMORIALS not MRT(which I found disrespectful)
yyyyes this is SO ACCURATE!! i love it. as someone who taught english in taoyuan for a year, i can fully appreciate all of those things. so glad the trash trucks made the list. i hope you go to ching xin tea shop every day and get lu cha, ban tang, yi dian dian bing kuai. green tea, half sugar, a little ice.
and have you had tsong dra bing yet from a street cart? dan bing?
having spent the first 18 years of my life in taiwan.. this is dead accurate. thank you for bringing back some fond memories! i am definitely one of those MRT dancing kids HAHAHA
why you don't have search button? I was attending to find one of yours photo, but i can't.. It was about the soup and tradition, when guy pee in the soup....
If you really like tea, I recommend going to Maokong when you are free. You can go there just by taking the Maokong Gondola. You can have tea while viewing beautiful scenes, and there are some tea-related dishes, like tea chicken soup, tea shrimps, tea rice, etc. If you want to have a try, i would recommend this to you. Enjoy Taiwan! http://www.xn--eut985eupp.tw/catalog.php?id=5
Como haces para viajar así, es decir, como lo financías. Yo vivo en un país tercer mundista y me encantaría comenzar a viajar, a vivir en cualquier lugar menos aquí.
Alex you made wonderful presentation in these little comics! Thanks for sharing your life with us. As a taiwanese, I can truly understand all your feelings and humor in your expression. 加油! Keep going!
Alex, u r cool. I'm so glad to c ur comics. I grew up in Taiwan and now live in California. It brings back so many memories when i read ur comics. Thank u so much for ur work!
Maybe the reason that we study in fast food restaurant is - you can buy only a cup of drink(maybe $1) but sitting there all day long!!And you can talk anytime which you can't in a library.
BTW I enjoy tea but coffee is necessary for office lol
i ganna be ur big fan after see ur product be posted on our country's(tw) famous internet magazine!!!!!!! ur products r allll cute and realitic!!! i love it sooo much~ keep going on!! and have happiness life with ur gf~
i totally LOVE your comics <3 (btw I'm taiwanese) and i appreciate you spending your time in taiwan to observe and discover our culture :D im so looking forward to your new comics! JIA YO!
Don't forget to mention how convenient 7-114 is, it can do almost everything for you haha.
Oh and there is one little but important thing... We use TRADITIONAL CHINESE, not the simplified one. So we will use 買買買 instead of 买买买, and 我愛你 rather than 我爱你.
hi,your comics are cool,I love them and I am Taiwanese too,a little thing I want to remind you is that we use traditional Chinese character, not simplified chinese character as china people used, so your comics use "买" is wrong, in Taiwan we use "買", and tell you another interesting thing, there are only two place in this world using traditional chinese characters, Hongkong and Taiwan
It's sooo true! special phenomenon you'll find only in taiwan! I think i'm one of them using my phone in any transportation... --- btw i'm Taiwanese lol
Sorry to say that I am not fully agreed, it happens in some places, but it cannot represents majority (eg. weekends in karaoke, shops constant announcement etc.) and of course it is also depend on where you went and what you wanted to see.
I think you forgot to mention that many Taiwanese 崇洋媚外 agree with anything that outsider/Westerner says but disagreed with everything their same race says.
You have quite a subtle observation but need to see more of Taiwan in Taiwan.
honestly, most asian countries study in fast food joints, play video games and watch movie on our phones, and wear tonnes of make up! Have you been around to Malaysia or Singapore??
Please visit Tainan or any city that located in south of Taiwan. You will be surprised by the differences between north ans south people in such a little island.

"Wo Yao NaGe" (I want that. 我要那个.) is really a golden sentence for all kinds of foreigners.
some of those things happen too in Indonesia :DD
some of those things also happen in Indonesia :DD
Great stuff!
I'm a coffee guy myself so I can't blame them for preferring it over tea.
You're so sensitive, awesome. :)

Actually a lot of these things are also common in places like Macau and Hong Kong.
La mayoría de estas cosas también pasan en Japón (viví en Tokyo 3 años, y fue una experiencia rarísima)

The fast food studying, annoying announcement in small shops, movie/games on cellphone and karaoke does happen in Singapore.

LOL yea. but i have to say, some of them can b found in singapore too =D welcome to asia
As i think the guy said above in some other language, most of this is right out of the Japan Play book.
I think it was said in a post in another language but Taiwan seems to have taken a page from Japan's play book.

This is so funny and true!
Good thing you're only staying until May, the summer heat + mosquitoes are killer.
One thing I'm surprised you didn't mention is the traffic and ridiculous quantity of mopeds EVERYWHERE.
Love the place though, the food is the BEST. And bubble tea <3
this is brilliant. so true.
Andrew (Taiwanese)
