70 - No brand is your friend

It's been almost one year since I started SNOTM. I would like to celebrate it by giving away a few original drawings by me. All you have to do is write and draw your own SNOTM cartoon and send it to my email (I won't copy your comic... I promise) and I will publish the best three in the blog. Easy!

Edit: The deadline will be within a couple of weeks.... maybe longer if people keep sending comics.

Toronto, a comic trip

I enjoyed my trip to Toronto so much, that I decided to draw this comic. I actually forgot to mention that I had lunch and an amazingly interesting conversation with the talented Alexei Vella (google him!). I hope you like it!

69 - Never work for free

* Unless it's for  friends or family!

Did you ever wonder how a SNOTM would look like if it was drawn in a cheap hotel room in Toronto, without a scanner, a graphic tablet or a mouse...? Wonder no mo!

Let me explain a little bit further on this sensitive subject matter (at least to graphic designers). I think it's great to work for free or be an intern when you are still in school or you just finished college. I don't think it's ok when big magazines or companies that make money don't want to pay you and try to convince you saying that it will give you tons of exposure. Let's make this clear: exposure doesn't pay the rent. I can't pay my groceries with exposure and, even though I didn't try, I can't go to the New Yorker and say that I want to work for them because the last shitty company I freelanced for promised me a lot of exposure.

Thanks for reading.

Edit: I lost a lot of comments that were posted here on thursday... blogger had some trouble. Sorry guys.

Zines, zines and more zines

Tcaf was awesome! I got a TON of cool zines and comics... and I got to meet some of my personal heroes (John Porcelino and Chester Brown... among others). I will stay a few more days in Toronto just wandering around. Any torontonian wants to buy me a beer?

TCAF please

I just landed in Toronto! I will be attending Tcaf this weekend. If you don't know it yet, Tcaf is a GREAT comic book convention that doesn't work like a normal comic book convention. First of all, the public doesn't have to pay to get in and second, it mainly shows the work of independent and self published cartoonists... I won't have a table but I´ll be around both days... I'm the fat guy with weird glasses... oh, wait! it's TCAF, it will be full of fat guys with weird glasses. Oh well.
