If you can manage it, drive down the east coast with a stop in Taroko Gorge.
Grab some dumplings at Din Tai Fung in Taipei! Hit the Shilin Night Market for street food/weird sights, and Taipei 101 for an incredible view of the city.
Oooh! I've never left a comment here before, but this got me thinking about my childhood memories. http://g.co/maps/n9b8u if that restaurant with the yellow sign and red text is still there, GO THERE! They have the best fried pork rice dish ever. Nothing has ever come close. I don't remember where all the other great restaurants are, though :(
Today I felt in love and got addicted to SNOTM (bIla) and today I found that Alex has been in Brazil last year. And today I got really, really sad I didnt get to meet him. =((
I second Taroko Gorge if you can make it out there. It's so beautiful.
Also, ditto Shi Da Night Market and Shilin Night Market. Both are in Taipei.
Kaohsiung (major city in the south) has a lot of cool things to see, but you really need a scooter or car to get around. You could ride the buses and subway, but they're not as convenient as in Taipei. Rui Feng Night Market is a good one. Kaohsiung is a lot more laid back than Taipei, but I love both cities.
Hope you have a great time! Taiwan is so beautiful!
Obviously Taipei 101! :) If you like bubble tea, there is a chain called 50Lan that is my favorite. Ximending is like a shopping district, but it's great for people watching. There is also a Red House Theater in that area that has neat artsy shops. Aaahhh I miss Taiwan...
Check out "Hungry Girl in Taipei". Great fud blog. I was there for six months last year and we lived next to Shi Da. Great night market. Do the Maokong Gondola. Go visit a tea plantation. Taroko is awesome. Rent a car from "Asian" car rentals, they span out of being "Avis" people. Really nice. Cat village: Houtong, bizarre. There are some tiny islands that are really hard to get to: Hsiao Liuchiu Island was LOVELY. Da-An park. Pics: http://www.flickr.com/search/?w=86617506@N00&q=taiwan
u can go to yong kang street[永康街]theres 度小月 and of cos Din Tai Fung! they are nice and super cheap! on the street along 度小月theres this little store with a chicken as their logo, they serve good fried snacks! like those fried chix that tw is famous for.. and if u are looking for brunch, u can try elephant cafe https://www.facebook.com/elephant.cafe
